Waterparks Makes a Splash In San Antonio

Written by Ashley Moore @ashleymoore.photography

Last Friday, the Houston based band, Waterparks, returned to San Antonio on their national tour. The Fandom tour began in Atlanta on November 15, 2019, and ended in their hometown, Houston, on December 23, 2019. The band made a return to the historic Aztec Theatre on December 20th, and played to a crowd of over a thousand fans. Their setlist was composed mainly of songs from their newly released album, "Fandom", and had medleys of their older albums, "Double Dare" and "Entertainment".

The last time Waterparks was in San Antonio, the band got robbed. The lead singer, Awsten Knight, mentioned that footage of the band from 2012-2015 was stolen. Despite their past misfortunes in San Antonio, they came back with an even bigger production than before.

Formed in Cypress, Texas, Waterparks first hit the stage in 2012, releasing their EP, "Airplane Conversations". They played a few Vans Warped Tour dates, and eventually opened for bands Aaron Carter, Sleeping With Sirens, and All Time Low. Now, they're headlining one of their biggest tours to date. Numbers of fans traveled all across the state to attend all three Texas shows. San Antonio was the first stop in Texas, and it did not disappoint. Fans queued outside all day in the freezing cold rain. Once the show began, the energy started to build with the two openers, De'wayne Jackson and Kitten. But once Waterparks got on stage, the energy went through the roof. Despite Awsten being sick, he powered through the show and gave it his all. Every person in the room was drawn into the music, screaming the lyrics back to him. During the slow, acoustic songs, everyone swayed back and forth with their flashlights up. During the loud, energetic songs everyone was off the ground and there were tons of crowd surfers, despite security threatening to kick them out. As always, Waterparks put on a breathtaking show and left the fans eager for what comes next.
